What is an E3 Trail?
E3 (Educate, Engage, Entertain) Trails are teacher-led, self-guided city tours showcasing top landmarks with engaging language-based activities that promote teamwork and dynamic thinking.
Before departing on your MFL trip, the teacher will receive their Trail pack including the activity resources and comprehensive teacher’s notes for stress-free delivery.
Lasting an average of 2-3 hours, the Trails provide fun, immersive, and educational activities that help students enhance their language skills while also providing cultural and environmental awareness. This makes them ideal for modern language trips.
The Activities
There is a range of different activities on the Trails. Some are particularly language-focused, and some are more creative, but all encourage teamwork. Below are some of the most popular activities available and tend to feature most prominently across the different Trail locations.
- The Shopping Challenge - An interactive chance for students to improve language skills while racing to identify foreign ingredients’ names. Finding the hidden ingredient leads to a secret task; the fastest team to complete it wins the most points!
- Clue Treasure Hunt - In this exhilarating challenge, explorers use observation skills in a set zone, racing to find and solve various clues, often around iconic landmarks in the city.
- The Secret Question - Pupils decode secret messages or tasks by answering questions about location or culture. Working together is crucial in this cultural and linguistic challenge to win and score points. Seeking help from locals is encouraged for the trickier questions.
- I-Spy Race - A popular activity with the children, eagle-eyed and quick-thinking team members will delight in this race to be the first team to spot five different items in the vicinity using only their initials as clues.
- The Comprehension Task - In this written language exercise, teams rapidly and precisely identify pertinent details in given texts about the visited place. It goes beyond regular comprehension, emphasising dynamic thinking to uncover concealed words, phrases, and meanings.
