Working in partnership with the Cambridgeshire Branch of the Western Front Association we recently offered to match their grant to Cambourne Village College in support of a student travelling on an educational Great War battlefield tour.
Cambourne Village College travelled to the Ypres Salient on the 18th November 2022. Sixty students at Year 9 had what has been described as “a brilliant day”.
Stuart Price, Branch Secretary said “it is the object of our Association to better educate the public in the history of the Great War, with particular reference to the Western Front. To help young people in their understanding of the conflict is something we as a branch are pleased to do”.
Eve Wilson, Education Trustee of the Western Front Association said, “I am very excited by this initiative from the Cambridgeshire Branch of the WFA. We know that taking learning out of the classroom is the way we make learning memorable and encouraging schools to give students the experience of standing on an actual World War One battlefield or seeing the vast memorials at the Menin Gate or Thiepval will do the work of many history lessons. We are very grateful to Anglia Tours for supporting the branch in this project.”
Going forwards we are delighted to be working with the Cambridgeshire Branch to match the grants available to Cambridgeshire school students next year.
