About this trip

Dating back to immigration in the 19th Century New York City is now a diverse network of faiths. A religious studies trip to New York can bring the opportunity for GCSE and A level students to explore all different kinds of cultures, and get a closer look into the religions that make up this vast city.

A school trip to New York will allow your students to study more than one religion in detail whilst also combining key study topics of ethics, peace and conflict.

Educational Visits In New York

Other History Visits

  • Personal Experiences At The 9/11 Tribute Center
Located next to a FDNY firehouse, the centre offers a ‘person to person history’ to help visitors understand the historic events and the people who experienced them. Various visit options are available, we highly recommend a 90 minute education programme where students will first tour the galleries learning through primary sources, before meeting with a 9/11 Tribute Centre guide who will share their unique personal 9/11 experiences, answer questions and engage students in dialogue about the future.
  • St Paul's Chapel
St. Paul's Chapel is part of Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal parish that has been a part of New York City since 1697. Paul's Chapel is located just across the street from the World Trade Center, St. Paul’s played an important role in hosting recovery workers after the attacks of September 11, 2001. We recommend visiting after the 9/11 Memorial to take a look at the exhibit dedicated to volunteers, rescue and recovery workers.
  • Central Synagogue
Central Synagogue is one of the largest Jewish congregations in North America and the oldest synagogue in New York City in continuous use. Group tours can be booked and tailored to your studies.
  • Eldridge Street Synagogue & Museum at Eldridge Street
One of the first synagogues erected in the United States by Eastern European Jews (Ashkenazis) in 1887. Further to members dwindling there was a period of renovation in the 80’s and 90’s before the Museum at Eldridge Street opened to the public. The museum which is within the synagogue building, reflects a cultural and educational mission.
  • The Jewish Museum
Located on New York City’s Museum Mile, The Jewish Museum is a hub for art and Jewish culture. On a school trip to New York, visitors can go along self guided or choose from a range of educational programmes.
  • Mahayana Buddhist Temple
Located in Downtown Manhattan this temple offers visits for school groups to help them understand worship and faith. Availability is limited and visits can not be guaranteed.
  • Museum of Chinese in America
This museum provides a great opportunity to learn more about Chinese immigration to the US and how Chinese culture has developed in the US. Guided tours cover customs and traditions, family journeys and stereotypes. The museum also provides guided walking tours around Chinatown.
  • Museum of Jewish Heritage
Created as a living memorial to those who perished during the Holocaust, the Museum honours those who died by celebrating their lives—cherishing the traditions that they embraced, examining their achievements and faith, and affirming the vibrant worldwide Jewish community that is their legacy today.
  • National Museum of the American Indian
Part of the Smithsonian Institute this museum is dedicated to the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of the Native Americans of the Western Hemisphere. Through self guided or guided visits, student can learn more about the traditions and culture of American Indians, but also the issues they face today.
  • St Patrick's Cathedral
St Patrick’s Cathedral is a prominent landmark in New York City. It is the seat of the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, and a Parisian church, located on the east side of Fifth Avenue between 50th and 51st Streets in Midtown Manhattan, directly across the street from Rockefeller Center. Guided tours are available throughout the week.
