This home even has a ‘snuggle-street’ to make the life of the residents more relaxed and fulfilling. This street consists of themed rooms which are built to stimulate the senses of the residents with light, incense, warm and cold objects and music.

The visit consists of a two hour tour of the care home, with insight to ‘snuggle-street’ and a wider look at the nature of elderly care in the Netherlands.

Operating as a major trading harbour since the Middle Ages, Amsterdam quickly became a magnet for the it's most popular profession.

As early as the 1300s, women carrying red lanterns met sailors near the port, triggering a flood of bars, clubs and entertainment venues into the area, that are still thriving today.

You can embark on a city walk guided by former homeless individuals, which gives students insights into how people find themselves homeless and how they survived the city streets of Amsterdam when homeless.

NVVE - Dutch Voluntary Euthanasia Society

NVVE provides information, consultation and education about euthanasia and assisted suicide in the Netherlands.

The organisation was founded in 1973 as result of a public outcry concerning the courtcase of Doctor Postma, who was found guilty of voluntary euthanasia and received a suspended sentence.

Following this event, the Dutch public argued that a doctor should be able to terminate life of someone upon their request. A small but powerful group bonded together to support Postma and push legal rights for euthanasia, resulting in the formation of the NVVE.

On visiting, your students will follow a lecture about the NVVE, euthanasia and the law in the Netherlands.

The Hash Marijuana & Hemp Museum in Amsterdam is the oldest and most important museum in the world dedicated to Cannabis Sativa L., otherwise known as hemp or marijuana.

The museum manages and exhibits a unique collection that encompasses all aspects of cannabis, functions as a knowledge centre, facilitates scientific research and plays an important informative role. 

The plant has a long history, many different applications and everyone has an opinion; but current beliefs and knowledge can often be based on assumptions, opinions or anti-cannabis propaganda. 

Therefore, the museum aims to provide impartial factual information about this controversial plant, so that visitors can discover more about the versatility of Cannabis Sativa L. and reach their own opinions.

Sex Worker Information Center

The Sex Worker Information Centre aims to make it easier for people to talk openly about sex work and create public respect for sex workers.

The purpose of the walking tour is not only to tell people more about the Red Light District, but also to explain more about the sex industry in the neighbourhood and help others understand and respect sex workers.

There is also a possibility for school classes to do a lecture about sex work without the tour. These talks will be done by someone with experience in the sex industry and students are welcome to ask questions.
