A trip to London can give your students context and more detail for their health and social care studies. Not only that, they will see their subject in real-life situations which will inspire them for their future career decisions.
With a whole host of quality relevant museums delivering tailored tours and talks aimed at Post 16 studies, a trip can be created to suit your specific topics.
We have some fantastic health related walking tours delivered by true experts along with hypnotherapy and sleep sessions focusing on mental health, which offer excellent learning opportunities for students.
The City of London Police Museum boasts a fascinating collection of artefacts and heritage charting the development of the British police service. Please note that the museum is small and can only accept group sizes of up to nine students and one teacher at a time. The tour is free and lasts approximately 45 minutes.
This museum is located in the former crypt of a late 19th-century church, which has been extensively and meticulously restored. The building has three main sections focusing on healthcare in the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries, including a history of the hospital since its foundation in 1740. These include a fascinating overview of famous medical cases such as Joseph Merrick (the 'Elephant Man'), the Whitechapel murders and former London hospital nurses Edith Cavell and Eva Luckes.
Here, you will also examine Florence’s legacy, her influence on nursing today and the confirming relevance of her work. Due to the size of the museum, they only allow groups of fifteen students in the museum at one time. However, groups can split and visit the mini museum in St Thomas' Hospital instead, which illustrates how medicines and operating techniques have advanced throughout history.
