Historical Sites & Monuments Walking Tour

A guided walking tour of the monuments and memorials of Washington tells the story of the history of the USA from the civil war to present day. This walking tour will take in the Lincoln Memorial, FDR Memorial, WW2 Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.

As one of the most famous political buildings in the world, the White House has been home to many of the most famous faces. It’s possible to take a self guided tour of the White House if you apply direct to the Embassy in Washington.

Arlington National Cemetery

Veterans and Military casualties from each of the nation's wars are buried here. Notable among the thousands of headstones and memorials are the graves of President John F. Kennedy, his wife Jackie and their children, as well as boxer Joe Louis.

Open every day with free admission, groups can visit the cemetery whenever they are in Washington, as well as witnessing the changing of the guard ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknowns, carried out by member of the United States Third Infantry. Arlington can be visited as part of a guided walking tour or you can spend more time there as an individual visit.

Lincoln Memorial Steps

Built to honour Abraham Lincoln, the Lincoln Memorial Steps the monument became significant to the Civil Rights Movement after Martin Luther King gave his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech here in 1963. This iconic memorial is always included in a guided walking walking tour but if you choose not to take a walking tour then during your free time the Lincoln Memorial Steps are a must for all visitors to Washington DC.

National Archives

This unique visit allows you to learn about the history of America through documents, photos, maps, military records, films and artefacts.

The National Archives Building located close to the Mall displays the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Students can take a visit to the public vaults which display original records and new interactive exhibits which allow you to explore a variety of documents.

Guided tours for student groups are available Monday to Friday and admission is free, though an on-line booking fee applies.
